G7 foreign ministers were unable to issue a joint statement after a video conference on March 25 because US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wanted the joint statement to refer to Covid-19 by calling it `Wuhan virus`.

However, this draft joint statement from the US side did not receive support from representatives of member countries.

Due to disagreement over how to call the virus that causes Covid-19, G7 foreign ministers were unable to issue a joint statement after yesterday’s meeting, leading to some member countries issuing separate statements.

A statement by the French government referred to the disease pandemic spreading in nearly 200 countries and territories around the world today as the `Covid-19 pandemic`.

Answering the media’s question about whether the US proposed calling the virus that causes Covid-19 the `Wuhan virus`, Secretary of State Pompeo did not deny.

Previously, US President Donald Trump and some other US officials also used the term `Chinese virus`.

The Covid-19 epidemic started in Wuhan, China at the end of 2019 and has now spread to nearly 200 countries and territories around the world.

US and Chinese officials have repeatedly `warned` about the origin of the virus that causes Covid-19.
